Ever since we were shown the video clip of keys talking about her campaign to raise money for those who have cancer in Africa, my already dismal support for "celebrities" finally diminished to zero. Don't get me wrong, I commend those who try to help the less fortunate; we need more people in the world to do so. my problem with keys is that the overall vibe coming from her, and those whom she associates with, is extremely vain.
lets just start with the basics that everyone should hopefully know about AIDS;
-AIDS kills many people every day, creates orphans, destroys friendships, tears apart families, alienates, etc.
-AIDS shows no mercy and no favoritism
-THE DEATH IS REAL
Now lets look at keys' campaign;
-x number of celebrities will die...blah blah blah
-you can bring them back....
-its not like here where people treat AIDS....(nonsense here).....then an implication that we as Americans think we are more entitled than the Africans with AIDS
let us compare and contrast
- the x number of celebs that will 'die' is no where remotely close to a fraction of a percent of the number of people that have died from AIDS
-the celebs aren't actually dying, they are faking 'death' by signing off from superficial websites
-People who die cant be brought back, that is only in movies....
-there are plenty of Americans that have AIDS and cant afford the proper treatment.....ironically some of the only people that could afford the complete and recommended treatment regime are....wait for it.....celebrities
i don't know if it is just me, but it seems that celebs have gotten so vain/addicted to attention that they have lost touch with reality. it is very clear to me that they don't have any concept of what their decisions/actions really look like outside of their herd of sheep (fans). me being one who doesn't give two shits about celebs (they're that person in that one movie), their name, their major roles, etc. i see this campaign in a different light. to me it looks like these celebs are using the campaign as a way to say "look at me, i am doing something for a cause, pay attention to me". i also get the impression that the campaign is in and of itself undermining the AIDS crisis by showing that AIDS cant get recognized without some celeb getting their panties in a bundle. like AIDS is not as important as being able to know what your celeb is doing this very second.
the worst celeb out there (using my limited knowledge of that part of America) would have to be Lady Gaga. now i used to love Gaga, but then the Arizona Immigration issue came up. i would like to say that SHE DOESN'T FUCKING LIVE IN ARIZONA. now that was expressed time to continue. she actively protested the law and told her fans to do the same. not only did she tell her fans not to support the law, she encouraged them to go to Arizona to protest.
a)just to reiterate LADY GAGA DOES NOT LIVE IN ARIZONA
-nor does the majority of her fan base
b)there was a reason as to why the Arizonans proposed the law
c)many people, like Gaga, misunderstood the law and thought that it specifically targeted the Mexican race; IT DIDN'T
d)i've realized after the release of her alejandro song (i think that is it) that she gets a hard on for Mexicans, and since she is retarded she thought that this was a law against Mexicans, and she just couldn't have that; what else could she get off to?
e) the fact that she has a flock of sheep that listens to her every whim means she has an ego, and if someone doesn't agree with her she cant handle it and shits a brick.
maybe I'm just too old fashioned but then again i find it hard to believe that i am. there are good people doing things for the right reason. my favorite of these would have to be lance armstrong. i think the following clips from youtube say it all....

View into my mind while in the library
This blog will essentially consist of whatever pops into my head, and is meant for me to see how off topic i can get (I am supposed to be figuring out my unknown Carboxcylic acid structure). So in short, Welcome to my thought processes, where each dash represents a new train of thought, and ..... means substantial time passes on the just written thought, enjoy
-The functional groups dont add up for my IR spectra. the O-H group on the 4-Hydroxy benzoic acid doesnt have a peak on the IR, but the melting point is the same as my microscale test, is there some sort of error?
-Holy crap the glitch mob is fucking sick!!!! i need to make a playlist for them on grooveshark right now!
.....
-so the library is a place to do school work right? today i have seen people on their facebook for over an hour not doing any school work. there is someone playing an online role playing game on a computer, and there are people desperately trying to find an open computer, i feel so bad for them. well actually they'll probably just go on facebook so i dont care any more.
.....
-oh yeah her hair is really cute, but you dont have to start a damn convo over it, and what i mean by that is; you are fucking annoying, get back to work and shut the hell up, if i can hear you with my headphons on, then you should consider whispering.
.....
-what about 3-Nitrophthalic acid? its melt point is only one degree higher than what i determined with the microscale. fuck no, this cant be the nitro group on this carboxylic acid compound isnt showing a strong peak on the IR. DAMMIT the lab professor said my melting point from the microscale was right on for my unknown, WTF
-damn, #3 on our womens basketball team is really cute, i should introduce myself, next time i run into her
.....
-I'm glad i made this playlist for the glitch mob, hella dope
-So there is definately an aromatic ring, and a carboxylic acid, what the hell is the other functional group attatched???
-why the fuck do people insist on whispering really loudly across the library? We all can fucking hear you, stop being a lazy a-hole and walk the forty feet to the person, i mean shit man.
-what about phthalic acid? it has an aromatic ring, and two carboxcylic acid groups. but the 1242 peak on the fringe of the fingerprint region is making me worry. and adding a +/- 6 degree thermometer error the melt point is in the range
-i should stop studying near the bottom of the stairs, they seem to attract people with annoying voices...
-Holy shit, REMIX!!!! and it is of lollipop, i actually can stand this version of the song. EPIC.
-time to use my bone stim unit, lets hope people dont look at me too strangely
-epic fail, everyone is looking at me like i am getting ready to blow up a bomb, oh well
-dang my boot smells like death, i need to wash it asap
-I remember the professor saying that she technically could call the 769 peak a Cl group, but it was very unlikely. woll shiet if i account for that and the thermometer error, the compound could be 3,4-dichlorobenzoic acid.
-drive it like you stole it is an epic song, what is this link? fighting gravity? i'll watch
.....
.....
-holy crap Fighting gravity is awesome!!!
-going to share fighting gravity with my friend via fb, it is ok for me to use fb cause i am using my laptop
-wait, that is so not right to do
-what the fuck i just went from 2 possibilities to 4, time to email the professor
-nice transition from lollipop to Cali love
-she was in my italian class and was my partner for class assignments, time to say hi!........wow, what a bitch. it seems that my dropping the course gave her valid grounds to act like i dont exist, some folks are just pieces of work.
-oh well i am over it, i dropped the class cause it was too easy anyways, i wanted more of a challenge. ergo, i win.
-shit, i still have to do GC and IR for my liquid sample. maybe i can see if suljak has a GC or IR i can use, and if not maybe let me into my lab so i can do it. hopefully i can id that shit more easily cause the solid IR is a beezy.
-maybe i should get my ochem lecture professor to help me with the solid IR results?
-i should check my email for my lab instructors response, although i doubt she will have answered by now
.....
-she hasn't yet, what a surprise. this makes me appreciate the speedy responsees of my Soci 49 Professor
-survival straps? this sounds interesting. bracelets and stuffs made from parachord, this is awesome, i definately could have used this before, i guess their slogan works 'be prepared'. i might just have to get one, para chord is really useful.
-holy crap, it is 12am, time to wrap up
-pretty sure my compound is phthalic acid, i'll double check it with my ochem prof for sure in the morning.
-this blog is probably going to read like a shit-show, oh well, she did say we caould do 2 on whatever we wanted
-man do i get distracted easily, reading this is eye opening, probably wont change anything, "if it's not broke, dont fix it"
-i still need to text kayla back, crap. i'll do it when i get home

My media Diet
Wednesday:
woke up at 5am, skyped my friend in spain for thirty minutes, left for practice. got back from my 915 and again skyped my friend in spain for an hour. got back from my 1030 and listened to music till i left for this class, so roughly 2hours. Had crazy midterms schedule so after practice i studied in the libs from 8pm-1am, the whole time grooveshark was my companion, so 6 hours. adding about 15 minutes for texting, total for the day was 9 hours and 45min.
Thursday:
got back from practice in the morning and decided to relax and watch some Big Bang Theory with breakfast, 30 min. proceded to study for 2 hours before my class, the whole time grooveshark was on. after the class and practice I donated another night to the libs, from 9pm till 1am, again with grooveshark, 4 hours. total for the day was 6.5 hours.
Friday:
skype my friend in spain after my 1030, one hour. have a race this weekend so i cant go out, after practice i make a massive dinner and consume it infront whilst my watching a movie with my apt mates, 2 hours. study in the libs with grooveshark and fb in the background for 3 hours. include 30min for texting that day. total is 6.5 hours
saturday/sunday
we drive to and back from the Newport aquatics Rowing Festival. 6hours each way, the way there an ipod was used for 1 hour during the car ride, and on the way back my teammate remembered he had an adaptor for the car, so we used an ipod the whole way back 6hrs. not much media usage there cause the hotel was a piece of shit and we figured antagonizing the man, who's gf just caught him cheating, would be more fun than watching tv, (thanks athletic dept). add 30 min of texts. the weekends total was 7.5 hours
Monday
midterm after morning practice, so i slept a lot after and between classes. my roommate watched pokemon for 3 hours while i was doing homework in the same room (dont know if that counts cause i heard it) groove shark is awesome, 2hours while doing school work. plus 15min for texts. total 2.25 hours maybe 5.25?
Tuesday
after morning practice i skype my friend in spain for an hour. go to lab. do readings with grooveshark at my side, 2 hours. 30 min for texts. days total was 3.5
Week total= 36 hours of media usage, Holy shit!
I believe that compared to some people i know, my usage, how impossible it may seem, is the same. i tipically used media to study with, grooveshark in the background. or to catch up with my dear friend and her adventures in spain/help her with math. others just blindly sit in front of the tv or computer and are not productive. this is what i believe makes most of my usage legitimate. i dont think that i will change my media diet too much, but just be more aware and try to be as productive as i possibly can. being in college definatly affects my diet because we are provided with wireless for free and have access to most everything we need.

Social Networking and privacy
I would say that i actually use Facebook only a total of a max one hour everyday. most of this time is used for school related topics, and some for catching up with friends and seeing what's going on. for me and my schedule with school work and rowing, (and the fact that i live pretty far off campus) i almost need facebook to help me out when it comes to school; like finding out when/where to meet for projects and such. i would be a liar to say i dont check status updates, but i dont check them on facebook all that regularly. this brings me to something else, phones. with the dawning of smartphone one can do almost anything from it. for example, my phone came with a app that pulls everyone from your fb profile and adds them to my phone contacts. it also came with a widget that automatically pulls the most recent status update from fb, and i can further access the past 200 or so updates if i so care to. just this leads me to realize how un-private the world of social networking can be. it is amazing how a status that i post can instantly be shared with hundreds of people, when i wasnt even intending for it to be. there is a small positive trend that comes out of this; being the networking of people. i dont believe that the current form as in fb is ideal, i believe that there is a system that is slowly coming forth leading to more private networking ie. a program atoumatically filters out people that an update doesnt pertain to. currently the model of social networking is like a panopticon with no guards. i say this because all of your info and pictures are very public despite what they believe; so in layman's terms, one is ALWAYS being watched, you just dont realize it. it is almost like the movie 'living in public' with the underground society, people dont care about what others think because there is no regard to privacy. it is all to possible to over share with fb and texting, sometimes you forget some people can see your posts, and then you put things up that they were not supposed to see. ive done this, but i will not share because it is too embarrassing. and with texting, it is way too easy to over share. like with me, i rely on hand and facial cues when i communicate with people, and when they cant see those (text) things can be taken the wrong way. I however have come to realize over the years that even with all the privacy settings one can enact, your info is still too public. this being said i have taken a conservative and more professional approach to social networking, although the possibility of a mistake is always there to be made.

Tech and Social Interaction
The only ways that Technology influences social interaction are what we project onto it. Technology is a tool that cannot make decisions for us, rather, we make decisions on how to use this tool. So either we can choose to use it to further develop social interaction, or use it to confine ourselves; it is our choice. "If guns kill people, do pencils misspell words?" this same line of thinking can be applied to technology and social interaction but is a double edged sword, 'does technology make us introverts or extroverts when is comes to social interaction?' it is up to the individual as to how one uses technology for social interaction. there are those who use it to reach out and connect with those that are elsewhere located. there are those that use it to test out a possibly new relationship before one decides if the person is worth spending time with. there are even those who use it to find dates in a world where their busy schedule doesn't permit extra time for random social interaction. and then there are those who hide behind technology because they are either: 1) afraid of real interaction with other people 2) want to pretend that they are someone else with people who don't know the difference 3) or to remove themselves from reality because they don't want to face real life. referring to point #2 my favorite quote ever "the one thing i hate the most is a pussy with a gun" if you get what I'm saying, the figurative gun is technology. the Internet makes you unknown, well fuck yeah it does, if you do not feel comfortable expressing your own opinion in front of people that know you, don't be a fucking bitch and hide behind a screen name, this sort of thing leads to people doubting themselves and as of recently, killing themselves. to sum up, technology is only negative on social life of individuals if you are to lazy to do things for yourself. if you are willing to try and make a real social interaction out of a fake one (Internet) then it is positive. a relationship can never be meaningful unless you can physically be with the other party and feel comfortable around them. things like dating sites, craigslist and other sites that promote physical social interaction are viable ways of creating meaningful relationships as long as parties physically meet and can stand each other. message boards, online gaming, and virtual worlds are all one in the same; a place where individuals can act out their delusions an grandeur without social repercussion because they are 'just a screen name.' with the world as spread out as it is, social networking sites are almost needed to keep in touch with those we may only be able to get to know for a bit, but then can be used for setting up times to hang out when the two individuals are in proximity for a brief while. we can create places for people to meet others, but that is dependent on wok schedules, sports, school, etc. plus such places already exist, THEY ARE CALLED PARKS, MALLS, AND PLAZAS so there is no need for governments to waste more money on something that wont work.
